Cairo: Two flash bombs were fired into the garden of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s residence in Caesarea on Saturday evening, marking a significant security breach. Police confirmed that neither Netanyahu nor his family was present at the time, and no damages were reported.
Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz condemned the attack, describing it as a severe escalation. “The Prime Minister of Israel, already under threat from Iran and its proxies, cannot face similar dangers from within the nation,” Katz stated in a post on X. He urged security and judicial agencies to act decisively.
President Isaac Herzog echoed these concerns, emphasizing that incitement against Netanyahu had crossed all limits. “Throwing a flash bomb at the Prime Minister’s home is an unacceptable red line,” he remarked. Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir also denounced the incident, underlining the urgent need for a thorough investigation.
This isn’t the first time Netanyahu’s Caesarea residence has been targeted. In October, a drone was launched toward the property, though no harm was caused.
The attack coincides with heightened tensions in the region. Israeli forces have been engaged in exchanges of fire with Hezbollah militants in northern Israel since October 2023. While no group has claimed responsibility for Saturday’s attack, the incident has amplified concerns about the Prime Minister’s safety amidst external and internal threats.
