Kochi: Congress MP and well-known cricket enthusiast Shashi Tharoor made an unexpected appearance in the commentary box during the Kerala Cricket League (KCL) final. Tharoor, a lifelong fan of the game, joined seasoned commentators Fazal Khaleel and Mikhail Vaswani for a 15-minute session, which quickly became the talk of the cricket community. This surprise stint was only brought to the public’s attention when Tharoor shared it on social media, accompanied by photos of his time in the commentary booth.
In his social media post, Tharoor revealed that as a child, he often dreamed of being a cricket commentator and would even practice in the shower. Being able to step into the KCL commentary box, therefore, was the fulfillment of a long-held childhood dream. During his time on air, Tharoor shared his observations about Kerala cricket, discussing its potential and predicting the key moments of the match. Notably, he correctly foresaw that Sachin Baby’s performance would be decisive in determining the final outcome—a prediction that was proven right when Baby’s stellar batting led his team to victory.
The highlight of Tharoor’s unexpected appearance came when Kerala cricket star Sanju Samson reached out to him, praising his commentary and encouraging him to consider taking it up more frequently. Overjoyed by the compliment, Tharoor expressed his gratitude, saying he was “chuffed” and thanked Ajay Mehra and Star Sports for the unique opportunity.
