Barcelona triumphed over Real Madrid 5-2 in the Spanish Super Cup final held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, leaving Madrid once again humiliated in their latest “clasico” clash. This follows a devastating 4-0 loss for Madrid in October during the Spanish league. The match began with a strong performance from Madrid, as Kylian Mbappé scored early in his second clasico, but Barcelona quickly turned the tide, with goals from Lamine Yamal, Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha (who scored twice), and Alejandro Balde.
Madrid’s hopes were dashed when Barcelona’s goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny was sent off in the second half, but Rodrygo managed to score a free kick in the 60th minute after the foul outside the penalty area. Despite this, the Catalans dominated the game and secured their third consecutive win of 2025 after a difficult year-end loss.
Barcelona’s victory marked a significant rebound from last year’s struggles, with Lewandowski and Raphinha continuing their impressive form, having scored 26 and 19 goals, respectively. The club also benefitted from the provisional registration of Dani Olmo, following intervention from the Spanish government.
Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid celebrated a club record 14 straight victories, securing a 1-0 win over Osasuna to top the Spanish league at the season’s halfway point, leaving Barcelona in third with a six-point gap.
