Kozhikode: Vilangad, a hilly region in Kozhikode district that was recently ravaged by landslides, experienced another bout of heavy rainfall early Tuesday morning. The persistent rain has prompted the evacuation of several families from the Manjacheeli area. Local residents, along with authorities, swiftly relocated the affected families to safer locations, including the Parish Hall and Vilangad St. George School.
The downpour inundated the Vilangad town bridge, once again bringing vehicle traffic to a complete halt. Reports indicate that the surrounding forest areas are also experiencing heavy rainfall, raising concerns about further landslides.
This recent rainfall follows a major landslide that struck Vilangad on July 30, which resulted in 18 families losing their homes entirely and around 80 houses suffering partial damage. The disaster also claimed the life of Kulathinkal Mathew, a former teacher from Manjacheeli. Mathew’s body was discovered two days after the landslide, following an intensive search operation.
As the region braces for more rain, the community remains on high alert, with ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of those affected.
