Historic Visit: PM Modi Engages with Indian Workers During Kuwait Tour

Strengthening India-Kuwait Ties Through Community Engagement and Diplomatic Talks

Kuwait City: During his historic two-day visit to Kuwait, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took time to visit the Gulf Speak Labor Camp, which houses a large community of Indian workers, constituting over 90 percent of its residents. Before attending the grand ‘Hala Modi’ community event at an indoor stadium, the Prime Minister personally interacted with workers at the camp, acknowledging their contributions to Kuwait’s development and commending their resilience.

Modi’s visit highlights his consistent efforts to engage with Indian diaspora communities across the globe. This interaction is part of his broader agenda to strengthen ties with Indians working in various sectors abroad and recognize their role as cultural and economic ambassadors of India.

The visit to Kuwait holds immense significance as Modi becomes the first Indian Prime Minister to visit the Gulf nation in 43 years, following Indira Gandhi’s visit in 1981. Invited by Sheikh Mishaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Emir of Kuwait, Modi’s trip is aimed at bolstering traditional, friendly relations between the two nations.

During his stay, Modi attended the opening ceremony of the Gulf Arabian Championship football tournament at Jaber Stadium as the chief guest. He also engaged in meaningful discussions with Kuwait’s leadership, including Sheikh Mishaal Al-Sabah, focusing on economic collaboration and regional stability.

Kuwait, holding the prestigious position of Secretary General of the GCC countries, is a pivotal ally for India in the Gulf. Modi’s visit reflects the growing importance of bilateral ties and paves the way for enhanced cooperation in various sectors, strengthening the historic bond between India and Kuwait.
