WhatsApp has begun rolling out an exciting new feature for beta testers, designed to enhance user safety by blocking messages from unknown accounts. This latest update, part of WhatsApp beta version 2.24.20.16 for Android, introduces an automatic filtering mechanism that protects users from unsolicited messages under certain conditions.
To access this feature, beta testers can navigate to the three-dot menu, then go to Settings > Privacy > Advanced > Block unknown account messages. Once enabled, this setting allows WhatsApp to block messages from unidentified senders if they exceed a specific threshold. This is particularly beneficial for users who might be overwhelmed by spam, as it aims to improve device performance and user experience.
According to WhatsApp, the feature is designed to safeguard user accounts while minimizing the impact of spam messages on device performance. When activated, users will still be able to see messages from unknown accounts within a certain limit, though WhatsApp has not disclosed this figure to prevent potential spammers from circumventing the system.
This new functionality joins two other advanced privacy features that WhatsApp offers: protecting users’ IP addresses during calls and disabling link previews to prevent third parties from inferring IP addresses. All three features require manual activation, allowing users to customize their privacy settings according to their needs.
