Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has announced that the distribution of welfare pensions for the month of March will commence on March 27. Finance Minister K N Balagopal revealed that an allocation of ₹817 crore has been made to ensure timely disbursal to beneficiaries. Under this scheme, around 62 lakh pensioners will receive ₹1,600 each as financial aid.
Additionally, the state government has provided ₹24.31 crore in advance as the Central government’s share under the National Pension Scheme, benefiting 8.46 lakh individuals. This move aims to provide continued financial support to economically vulnerable sections of society, ensuring they receive timely assistance despite fiscal constraints.
However, the state government still has three pending pension instalments that need to be settled. Minister Balagopal assured that these dues will be cleared in phases during the next financial year. The government has been making consistent efforts to streamline pension disbursement and address backlogs, prioritizing the welfare of elderly citizens, widows, and other beneficiaries reliant on these payments.
With this initiative, the Kerala government continues its commitment to social security and welfare, ensuring financial stability for those dependent on pension schemes. The authorities have urged beneficiaries to check with their respective local bodies or banking institutions for updates regarding the disbursement process.
