Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is facing intense weather conditions as heavy rain, accompanied by lightning and strong winds, continues to batter the state. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast predicting isolated heavy rainfall across Kerala until September 2, 2024.
The IMD has issued an orange alert for four districts—Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod—for Friday, warning of very heavy rainfall ranging from 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm within a 24-hour period. The rest of the state, except for Alappuzha, Kollam, and Thiruvananthapuram, remains under a yellow alert, which indicates expected rainfall between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm.
Districts under Yellow Alert:
- August 30: Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram
- August 31: Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod
- September 1: Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod
- September 2: Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur, Kasaragod
The IMD has also predicted that Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, and Kozhikode districts will experience heavy rain along with gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 40 kmph on Friday.
