New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday expressed sadness over the devastation caused by the earthquakes in Venezuela, and said India stands ready to extend all possible assistance to the Latin American country.
Powerful earthquakes struck off the coast of Venezuela on Wednesday evening, leaving at least 32 people dead and 700 injured.
“Deeply saddened by the devastation caused by the severe earthquakes in Venezuela. On behalf of the people of India, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of Venezuela, especially to the families who have lost their loved ones,” Modi said in a post on X.
The prime minister said India prays for the speedy recovery of those injured and stand in solidarity with all those affected during this difficult time.
“India stands ready to extend all possible assistance,” he added.
Rescue and relief operations have been intensified in the worst-affected areas, with emergency response teams and military personnel deployed to assist local authorities. Officials fear that more people may still be trapped under collapsed structures, and search operations are continuing round the clock. Hospitals and medical centers have been placed on high alert to handle the growing number of injured victims.
The earthquakes also caused significant damage to infrastructure, disrupting power supply and communication networks in several regions. Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious and move to safer locations where necessary. As assessments of the damage continue, the Venezuelan government is coordinating with international agencies and friendly nations to secure additional humanitarian assistance for affected communities.
