In a significant boost for Australia, in-form batsman Travis Head has been declared fit for the Boxing Day Test against India. Head, who suffered a minor thigh strain during the Gabba Test, has been in exceptional form, amassing 409 runs at an impressive average of 81.80 across the first three matches. Despite initial concerns about his fitness, skipper Pat Cummins confirmed that the left-hander is fully fit and ready to play.
“Trav is good to go, so he will play. He just ticked off some final things today and yesterday. No stress, no worries about injury,” Cummins reassured. The skipper also praised Head’s form, emphasizing how his aggressive batting style has shifted the pressure back onto the opposition.
The Australian team has also announced two changes to their lineup. Scott Boland will step in for the injured Josh Hazlewood, while 19-year-old Sam Konstas is set to make his Test debut, replacing Nathan McSweeney. Konstas becomes Australia’s youngest Test debutant since Cummins in 2011.
Reflecting on his own debut, Cummins offered words of encouragement for the young opener: “The message to Sam is to take the game on, have fun, and not overthink it.”
With the five-match series tied at 1-1, this match will be crucial for both teams.
