Washington: In a fierce critique of former president Donald Trump, Vice President Kamala Harris declared him “unfit” to lead the nation, accusing him of undermining constitutional values. Speaking to reporters, Harris referenced recent comments from John Kelly, Trump’s former chief of staff, who alleged that Trump had expressed a desire for generals similar to those under Adolf Hitler. According to Kelly, Trump sought a military loyal to him personally rather than to the U.S. Constitution.
Harris highlighted the severity of Trump’s rhetoric, particularly his recent statements branding fellow Americans as the “enemy from within” and suggesting he would use the military against U.S. citizens. These comments, Harris argued, illustrate Trump’s dangerous authoritarian tendencies and disregard for the rule of law.
Kelly’s accusations, published in The New York Times, portrayed Trump as someone who admires dictators and prefers an authoritarian style of governance. According to Kelly, Trump never accepted limits on his power and sought to act without constraint. Trump, however, responded by dismissing the claims, calling Kelly a “total degenerate” suffering from “Trump Derangement Syndrome” and accusing him of fabricating stories.
Steven Cheung, communications director for Trump’s campaign, fired back at Harris, labeling her a “stone-cold loser” whose campaign is failing. Cheung claimed that Harris’ “dangerous rhetoric” has fueled violence against Trump and insisted she is unfit for office. Trump also used his social media platform Truth Social to criticize Harris and claim that her declining campaign has made her toxic within the Democratic Party, accusing her of promoting false narratives for political gain.
