Explore Different Types of Panjiri to Offer Lord Krishna During the Janmashtami Festivities

Krishna Janmashtami, a sacred festival dedicated to Lord Krishna, is celebrated with great fervor and devotion. One of the highlights of this festival is the offering of panjiri, a traditional dish served as part of Chappan Bhog during the midnight celebrations. Panjiri, made from various wholesome ingredients, is not only a feast for the deity but also a treat for those observing the festival. Here are seven delightful types of panjiri you can prepare at home to make your Janmashtami celebrations even more special:

Gond Panjiri: Start by pan-frying 1 tablespoon of gond (edible gum) in 2 tablespoons of ghee until crispy. Transfer it to a bowl. In the same pan, sauté some grated coconut, chopped almonds, and walnuts in additional ghee. Roast some wheat flour with ghee separately until aromatic. Combine all ingredients and add powdered sugar to taste. Your Gond Panjiri is ready to be offered.

Dry Fruit Panjiri: For a nutritious option, roast cashews, almonds, walnuts, pistachios, and chironji in ghee until golden and crunchy. Mix in 1/2 cup of powdered sugar. Your Dry Fruit Panjiri is a rich and satisfying treat.

Atta Panjiri: Roast 1 cup of wheat flour in 1/2 cup of ghee until it becomes aromatic. Roast makhanas, cashews, almonds, and walnuts separately. Add these to the flour along with 1 cup of powdered sugar. Mix well to complete your Atta Panjiri.

Dhaniya Panjiri: Dry roast 1 cup of coriander seeds. In the same pan, roast makhanas and dry fruits of your choice in ghee. Add the powdered coriander seeds to the pan and cook for 2-4 minutes. Mix in the nuts and 1/2 cup of powdered sugar. Your Dhaniya Panjiri is ready.

Nariyal Panjiri: Grate 1 coconut and dry roast it briefly. In the same pan, heat ghee and roast chopped almonds, walnuts, pistachios, and chironji. Combine with the coconut and add powdered sugar to taste.

Sooji Panjiri: Roast 1 cup of sooji (semolina) in 1/2 cup of ghee on a low flame until aromatic. Add roasted nuts of your choice and let the mixture cool slightly. Stir in 1/2 cup of powdered sugar to complete your Sooji Panjiri.

Makhana Panjiri: Roast 1 cup of makhanas (fox nuts) in 4-5 tablespoons of ghee along with chopped almonds, walnuts, and pistachios until aromatic. Let the mixture cool, then add 1/2 cup of powdered sugar.

These variations of panjiri will not only enhance the festive spirit but also allow you to offer a diverse selection of treats to Lord Krishna during Janmashtami.
