Who can resist the crunch of golden Kerala banana chips? A beloved snack, especially during the rainy season, these chips are fried to perfection in coconut oil and are the ideal accompaniment to a hot cup of tea. Learn how to make this traditional treat at home with just a few simple ingredients.
To make perfect Kerala banana chips, follow these steps:
Ingredients:
4 raw bananas
1 tsp turmeric powder
Coconut oil (for frying)
Salt (to taste)
Water
Preparation:
Peel and Wash:
Begin by peeling the raw bananas and washing them thoroughly.
Prepare the Soaking Solution:
In a bowl, mix water, salt, and turmeric powder.
Slice the Bananas:
Thinly slice the bananas into rounds and immediately add them to the water solution. Let the slices soak for about 5 minutes. This helps them absorb flavor and enhances their color.
Heat the Oil:
Heat coconut oil in a kadai, uruli, or any deep-bottomed pan until it reaches the right frying temperature.
Fry the Chips:
Drain the banana slices from the turmeric water and carefully add them to the hot oil in batches. Fry them until they turn a bright golden yellow and are crispy.
Drain the Excess Oil:
Remove the chips from the pan and drain them on paper towels to remove excess oil.
Store and Enjoy:
Once cooled, store the banana chips in an airtight container to maintain their crispness.
Serve with tea for the perfect snack!
