In a new initiative to elevate the wildlife experience in Thekkady, the forest department has introduced an eco-tourism project that allows visitors to explore the lush greenery of the region in specially designed buggy cars. This innovative project provides a comfortable and eco-friendly way to experience the dense forests and scenic beauty of Thekkady.
The project features two state-of-the-art buggy cars, each accommodating up to five passengers. These vehicles will transport tourists from the entrance of Thekkady to the boat landing, a journey spanning approximately three and a half kilometers. Along the route, visitors can enjoy designated spots for viewing and photographing the stunning landscape. Binoculars are available for bird watching, and knowledgeable tourist guides are on hand to offer insights into the forest’s rich ecosystem.
This initiative, directed by Periyar Tiger Reserve Field Director P. P. Pramod, aims to enhance the accessibility of Thekkady’s natural beauty, particularly for those who find walking challenging. Priced at Rs 200 per person for an hour-long ride, the buggy car experience also includes a chance to view the beautiful turtle park. The project has already received positive feedback during its trial run, and the two buggy cars, valued at around Rs 14 lakh, promise a unique and enjoyable adventure for all visitors.
