Dubai is gearing up to introduce air taxis by the end of 2025, significantly reducing travel time between major destinations in the UAE. Currently, a trip between Dubai and Abu Dhabi takes approximately 60 to 90 minutes by road, but with the new air taxi service, this journey could be completed in just 10 to 20 minutes. Archer Aviation, the company behind the Midnight air taxis, has confirmed that these innovative flying vehicles will arrive in Dubai by the end of this year, with trial flights expected to commence soon after.
Ticket Prices and Travel Duration
The fares for air taxi rides will be based on the distance traveled:
-
Within Dubai: Expected to cost between AED 300 to AED 350.
-
Between Emirates: Prices could range from AED 800 to AED 1500, depending on the route.
Despite the high initial pricing, authorities anticipate that fares will become more affordable over time as the service expands.
Features of the Air Taxi
The Archer Midnight air taxi will be capable of carrying up to five people, including a pilot and four passengers. These aerial vehicles will operate at altitudes ranging from 500 to 3,000 feet, ensuring a smooth and efficient mode of transport above traffic congestion.
Expansion Plans Across the UAE
While Abu Dhabi will be the first city in the Middle East to launch an exclusive air taxi service, Dubai is also preparing for this transformation. By 2026, air taxi services are expected to be available across all major Emirates, making fast and convenient travel a reality throughout the country.
The UAE has been actively developing the necessary infrastructure for this futuristic transport system. The first commercial vertiport, named Dubai International Vertiport (DXV), has been designated as a hub for takeoff, landing, and air taxi operations. Additional vertiports will be established in:
-
Dubai: Palm Jumeirah, Downtown Dubai, and Dubai Marina
-
Abu Dhabi: Al Bateen, Yas Island, and Khalifa Port
Boost to Tourism and Innovation
The introduction of air taxis is expected to enhance Dubai’s tourism sector by offering a unique and luxurious travel experience. Abu Dhabi Aviation Group and Archer Aviation have already signed agreements to expand the service both within and outside the UAE. Additionally, LODD, an Abu Dhabi-based AI-powered drone technology firm, and Skyports Infrastructure are collaborating to support the growth of autonomous aerial logistics.
As Dubai continues its journey towards becoming a global leader in smart transport solutions, air taxis mark a significant step toward futuristic, efficient, and sustainable urban mobility.
