In celebration of India’s Republic Day, a new initiative has been launched that allows history enthusiasts and travelers to explore some of India’s most iconic battle sites and border areas. The ‘Bharat Ranbhoomi Darshan’ app, developed by the Indian Army and the Ministry of Tourism, offers a unique way to experience the country’s military history through a concept called ‘battle tourism.’ The app guides users to over 70 significant locations across India, such as the Siachen Glacier—the world’s highest battlefield, the Galwan Valley, and the Nathu La and Cho La, sites of intense border clashes in 1967.
The app also provides detailed information about museums, war memorials, and stories behind various wars. Users can access essential travel information, including permits required to visit these historically significant sites. Furthermore, certain areas in Batalik, Kargil, and Drass will soon be open to trekking enthusiasts interested in experiencing the Kargil conflict of 1999, though current operational zones will remain off-limits.
For those who cannot visit these locations in person, the app connects to a website offering virtual tours and multimedia content, allowing users to explore these sites from the comfort of their homes. The app will be available soon on both Google Play Store and Apple App Store, providing a new way to discover India’s rich military heritage.
