New Delhi: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has prohibited all political demonstrations and protests at the gates of Parliament House after a heated altercation between BJP and Opposition MPs, including Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, led to chaos on Thursday. Sources confirmed that the directive aims to maintain decorum within the Parliament premises.
The conflict erupted as BJP MPs staged a demonstration accusing Congress of disrespecting Dr. BR Ambedkar, while the INDIA Bloc, spearheaded by Rahul Gandhi, demanded Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s resignation over his controversial remarks about Ambedkar. The scuffle reportedly left BJP MPs Pratap Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput injured, requiring medical attention at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.
Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan condemned Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of intentionally creating disruptions and disregarding security protocols. Chouhan alleged that Gandhi ignored advice to use an alternate entry point and instead tried to access the gate where BJP MPs were protesting, escalating tensions.
In contrast, Rahul Gandhi accused the BJP of being “anti-Ambedkar and anti-Constitution.” He alleged that BJP MPs attempted to block Opposition members from entering Parliament, labeling the ruling party’s actions as a diversion from critical issues like the Adani controversy and Amit Shah’s remarks.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge joined Gandhi in a press conference, criticizing the BJP for stifling Opposition voices. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to raising pressing national concerns in Parliament despite mounting challenges. The Speaker’s ban on protests at Parliament gates signals a stern move to prevent similar confrontations in the future.
