An auto-rickshaw in Bengaluru has gained significant attention on social media for displaying a thought-provoking message aimed at promoting respect for women. The phrase read, “Slim or fat, black or white, virgin or not. All girls deserve respect.” While the message was intended to empower women, it has ignited a heated debate among netizens, with many questioning the intentions behind it.
A social media user named “retired sports fan” shared a picture of the auto and remarked, “Some radical feminism on the roads of Bangalore,” suggesting that the message might be taken as a joke. The post quickly went viral, amassing 87.6K views in just two days.
Responses from users varied widely; one comment lightheartedly dismissed the notion of radical feminism, while another acknowledged seeing “worse” messages in the city. Comments like “Rick Wale Bhaiya is more civilized than most of those techbros in Bangalore” underscored a sense of camaraderie among users. However, some comments turned more critical, particularly regarding language issues in the city, reflecting ongoing cultural tensions.
This is not the first time Bengaluru auto drivers have garnered online attention; one driver recently made headlines for replacing his traditional seat with an office chair for added comfort, showcasing the city’s unique culture. Additionally, Flipkart’s recent initiative offering Re 1 auto rides during peak hours has further highlighted the lively and innovative spirit of Bengaluru’s auto-rickshaw community.
