ChatGPT is now offering its free tier users the ability to generate up to two AI-powered images per day using OpenAI’s Dall-E 3 model. This update, announced on Thursday, marks the first time OpenAI’s image generation technology is available to non-subscribers. Previously, Dall-E 3 was exclusive to ChatGPT Plus members since its release in September 2023.
OpenAI shared this news on X (formerly Twitter), noting that while free users will have access to Dall-E 3’s capabilities, the image generation quality and prompt complexity remain unchanged. Users can create images via ChatGPT’s web interface or its mobile apps for Android and iOS, though it might take a few days for the feature to be fully rolled out.
On the ChatGPT web platform, users can access the Dall-E 3 interface through the side panel or generate images directly within ChatGPT. The tool requires detailed prompts to produce desired results, but users can also rely on ChatGPT to create detailed prompts from general descriptions. The image editing feature available to Plus users since April is not included for free tier users.
