In a barbaric incident in Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan, a 65-year-old elderly woman named Kamla Devi’s feet were chopped off for her silver anklets. The perpetrators first fed her, then took her to a secluded spot to commit the gruesome act. Police have arrested two individuals in connection with the crime. The victim is currently undergoing treatment at Sawai Man Singh Hospital in Jaipur. The heinous crime took place on the night of October 8 in Gangapur City.
Kamla Devi said the accused took her and three others under the pretext of work. “I said I cannot do the work. He said, ‘No problem,’” she told reporters. They reached a bypass near Gangapur City at 9 AM. The accused asked her to sit with his wife while he went to drop off others. By 8 PM, he brought Kamla Devi to his room. He said, “Old woman, I won’t drop you today. I will drop you off tomorrow.” She was fed potatoes, onions, paratha, and roti before the crime.
Kamla Devi explained that the attack did not happen in the room. The accused took her to Pipli’s Kothi via a shortcut. She asked why they were there. The man grabbed her throat, and his wife covered her mouth. She said, “Don’t kill me. Take whatever you want.” The criminals made her unconscious, cut her feet, and threw her in the grass. She regained consciousness the next morning and dragged herself to the road for help.
Police arrested two people, including a woman. The main accused, Ramotar alias Kadu Bairwa (32), from Kheda Bad Ramgarh Gangapur City, had recently been released from Sewar Jail. His wife, Tanu alias Sonia, a resident of Bhaisa, was also arrested.
The arrests were aided by tracking the victim’s daughter-in-law’s mobile location. Police revealed that the accused had committed similar crimes before. They lured women with the promise of work, took them to a secluded place, and cut their feet to steal silver anklets. Authorities have also identified the people who bought the stolen anklets and have seized the money received from the sale.
