The news of AR Rahman and Saira Banu’s separation after 29 years of marriage has left many fans stunned. Amid this, rumors have surfaced linking Rahman’s bassist, Mohini Dey, to the split. These speculations intensified as Mohini announced her own separation from her husband, Mark Hartsuch, on the same day Rahman and Saira’s divorce became public.
Mohini Dey, a 29-year-old musician from Kolkata, has collaborated extensively with AR Rahman, performing in over 40 music shows alongside the maestro. She is also known for her work on the music television show Wind of Change on Gaan Bangla.
However, Saira Banu’s advocate, Vandana Shah, has categorically dismissed these allegations. Shah stated that the simultaneous announcements are purely coincidental and that there is no connection between Mohini Dey’s divorce and Rahman and Saira’s separation. “Rahman and Saira parted amicably due to personal differences. Please refrain from spreading baseless rumors,” Shah said, emphasizing that the couple’s decision to end their marriage came after much deliberation.
AR Rahman and Saira Banu were married in 1995 in an arranged union orchestrated by Rahman’s mother. Rahman had specified three qualities he desired in a partner: someone educated, fond of music, and compassionate. Saira fit these criteria perfectly. The couple has three children—Khatija, Rahima, and Ameen. While their separation marks the end of an era, it’s essential to respect their privacy and avoid unnecessary speculation.
