In 2024, Malayalam cinema has made a significant leap, with multiple films crossing the coveted 100 crore mark, an achievement that was once predominantly seen in Bollywood and other regional industries. This growth signifies the rising influence of Mollywood on a global scale, expanding its reach beyond the Malayalam-speaking population. Among the standout films of this year, five have not only earned critical acclaim but have also done remarkably well at the box office, marking milestones in the industry.
Manjummel Boys has emerged as the biggest hit, grossing over Rs 200 crore. Directed by Chidambaram, this survival thriller features a strong cast and follows the gripping journey of a group of friends who get trapped in Kodaikanal’s Guna Caves. Similarly, Aadujeevitham, a poignant survival drama starring Prithviraj, captivated audiences with its raw emotional depth and the actor’s incredible transformation for the role.
Meanwhile, Premalu, a romantic comedy directed by Girish AD, struck a chord with younger audiences, offering a heartwarming tale of love and friendship.
