Malayalam cinema’s beloved veteran actor, Madhu, turns 91 today, celebrating a life filled with remarkable contributions to Indian cinema. Known for his humility and grace, Madhu is not one to revel in grand celebrations. In his characteristic manner, he quipped, “I don’t have the habit of waking up in the morning. Someone will wake me up for my birthday, and I’ll get angry. But how can I show anger to the faces of those wishing me well?” Despite his reluctance, he partakes in the celebrations organized by his family and friends. His daughter, Uma, mentioned that he joins in “for our happiness, not his own.”
Madhu plans to celebrate his birthday with a traditional sadya alongside his family, but not before indulging in his passion for cinema. As the clock struck midnight, he sat down to watch the OTT film Nanakkuzhi and had recently enjoyed films like Turbo and Thalavan. While he has retired from acting, Madhu remains open to returning if a role suitable to his age and taste comes along.
