Malayalam superstar Mohanlal has kicked off the shooting of Drishyam 3, the upcoming plot in the popular Drishyam series. It is taking place at SN Law College, Poothotta in Kochi. The film’s launch coincides with the actor receiving the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India’s highest cinematic honour, marking a momentous day in his career.
The inaugural ceremony of Drishyam 3 included a traditional lamp-lighting and pooja, attended by director Jeethu Joseph, producer Antony Perumbavoor, and Mohanlal. Speaking to the media, Mohanlal expressed his joy at receiving the Dadasaheb Phalke Award.
On reprising his iconic role of Georgekutty, he said, “No doubt Georgekutty will create some trouble. But I have been told not to reveal much. The suspense is the excitement and catch of Drishyam 3.” He also mentioned that he would be travelling to New Delhi to receive the award following the film’s inauguration event.
The original Drishyam (2013) and its sequel Drishyam 2 (2021) were pan-India successes, earning remakes in multiple languages, including Hindi, Sinhala, Mandarin, and Korean. The films have been celebrated for their gripping storytelling and engaging family drama elements.
Director Jeethu Joseph advised audiences to approach Drishyam 3 with curiosity rather than high expectations. “This film is not a thriller but a family drama, focusing on how Georgekutty’s family has changed over the last four years,” he said.
Producer Antony Perumbavoor called the day unforgettable and noted the symbolic importance of beginning the film shortly after Mohanlal’s award announcement. Malayalam superstar Mohanlal has been selected for the Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2023. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said he is being honoured for his outstanding work in Indian cinema. He will receive the award at the 71st National Film Awards on September 23, 2025.
