Joju George Responds to Alleged Threats Over “Pani” Review Controversy

Actor Joju George Addresses Accusations of Intimidation Against Critic Adarsh

Actor and filmmaker Joju George has publicly addressed the recent controversy surrounding alleged threats toward film reviewer Adarsh, who posted a negative review of Joju’s latest film, Pani. The dispute began after Adarsh claimed he received a call from Joju that he perceived as threatening, following his review, which he shared widely across various social media groups. Adarsh even posted a recorded conversation with Joju online, alleging that the actor’s remarks were intimidating and aimed at silencing critics.

In a live video, Joju clarified his position, acknowledging that he did indeed call Adarsh but asserting that his intent was misunderstood. He stated, “I called to address specific actions, not to infringe on anyone’s freedom of speech. I don’t typically reach out to reviewers for expressing their opinions, but this situation was different. This person not only reviewed the film negatively but also shared the same comments in multiple forums, urging people not to watch Pani.” Joju explained that such repeated postings had a negative impact on the film and could discourage potential viewers, which, he argued, affects the livelihoods of many involved in the film industry.

Joju also expressed frustration with Adarsh for revealing key plot points in his review, which he felt crossed a line between critique and spoiler. He emphasized that he would take legal action to address the matter and prevent similar issues in the future. “I have many detractors, but I can handle personal attacks. However, this film is not solely my own. It represents the hard work of a whole team, and I believe reviewers should be more responsible.”

Adarsh, in response, shared the audio of their conversation on social media, stating he did so to shed light on what he interpreted as an intimidation attempt. He urged others to freely express their views without fear of reprisal. The dispute has sparked broader discussions about the boundaries of criticism and the impact of spoilers and negative reviews on creative projects.
