Actress Vincy Aloshious has officially named actor Shine Tom Chacko in a serious allegation of misconduct and substance abuse on a film set, bringing to light a troubling incident that has shaken the Malayalam film industry. The incident allegedly occurred during the shoot of the film Soothravakyam, and according to Vincy, Shine Tom Chacko behaved inappropriately with her while under the influence of drugs.
Initially, Vincy revealed the experience through a social media video without naming the individual. However, the situation escalated when she filed a formal complaint with both the Film Chamber of Commerce and the movie’s Internal Committee (IC) on Thursday. This move came after receiving support from various industry bodies and was intended to address the broader issue of drug abuse and harassment in the film sector.
Film Chamber General Secretary Saji Nanthiyattu confirmed that the matter is being taken seriously, with an emergency meeting of the monitoring committee convened to determine possible disciplinary action, including the expulsion of Shine Tom Chacko. He noted that although the IC had intervened during the shoot, Vincy’s official complaint was crucial for accountability.
Meanwhile, the actors’ association AMMA also expressed solidarity with Vincy, with office-bearer Jayan Cherthala stating that the organization stands firmly against any form of workplace misconduct.
Adding to the gravity of the situation, the Kochi Excise Department has taken cognizance of Vincy’s allegations related to narcotics use and has announced a preliminary investigation.
This incident has sparked widespread discussion about the need for stronger protections against abuse and drug use in the Malayalam film industry, underscoring an urgent call for systemic reforms.
