The ongoing legal dispute between actor Dhanush and actress Nayanthara has garnered significant attention, as Dhanush files a lawsuit against her and her husband, filmmaker Vignesh Sivan, for alleged copyright infringement. The issue revolves around a three-second clip from Dhanush’s 2015 film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, which was used in the Netflix docu-series Nayanthara: Beyond Fairytale. Dhanush claims that the footage, which was taken from behind-the-scenes material, was used without permission, demanding a hefty Rs 10 crore in damages.
In response, Nayanthara’s legal team, led by lawyer Rahul Dhawan, has firmly denied any wrongdoing. Dhawan clarified that the footage in question was not taken from the film itself but from Nayanthara’s personal library, and thus no copyright laws were violated. According to Dhawan, the footage was used as part of the personal content shared in the docu-series, and not in violation of any commercial or behind-the-scenes material related to Naanum Rowdy Dhaan.
This legal clash began after Nayanthara edited out the footage from her documentary following Dhanush’s objection. Dhanush then sent a legal notice, demanding the removal of a related Instagram post by Nayanthara and threatening further legal action unless the footage was taken down. The case is set to be heard in the Madras High Court, with both parties preparing for the next steps in the ongoing legal battle.
