Bollywood actress Vidya Balan recently opened up about her weight loss journey in an interview with Galatta India, revealing a surprising secret—she hasn’t exercised at all this year. Known for her honest stance on body positivity, the 44-year-old actor shared insights into her transformation journey, which stemmed from addressing inflammation rather than fat reduction. Vidya, who previously followed rigorous diets and workout routines to maintain a slim frame, explained that her struggles with weight have been lifelong. Yet, it wasn’t until she consulted with Chennai-based nutrition experts at Amura Health that she learned her issues weren’t solely related to body fat.
“They told me, ‘It’s just inflammation; it’s not fat,’” Vidya shared. Her customized plan focused on eliminating foods that didn’t suit her body, significantly improving her health. Although a lifelong vegetarian, she discovered that even certain vegetables like spinach and bottle gourd were not ideal for her.
Most surprising was her revelation about the absence of exercise in her regimen. Her health advisors recommended she stop working out entirely, which helped reduce inflammation and improve her wellness. “People say, ‘Oh, you look your slimmest,’ and I haven’t worked out at all this year,” Vidya said. She emphasized that while exercise has benefits, it’s essential to respect individual body needs, as one size doesn’t fit all.
Vidya also spoke about facing body shaming throughout her career, often labeled as the “fat girl” in her youth. Despite the negative connotations around the term, she’s chosen to view “fat” as a neutral description of body type, free from shame. On the professional front, Vidya’s next film, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, releases on November 1, starring alongside Madhuri Dixit, Kartik Aaryan, and Triptii Dimri in this horror-comedy by Anees Bazmee.
