Isuzu has unveiled updated versions of its popular MU-X SUV and V-Cross pickup truck for the 2025 model year in Thailand. The highlight of these revamped vehicles is a new 2.2-litre mild-hybrid diesel engine, designed to enhance both performance and fuel efficiency. This electrified powertrain comes paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and promises significant improvements over the older diesel models.
Key Features of the New Engine
The 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine delivers 162 hp and 400 Nm of peak torque. Equipped with a variable turbocharger, the engine boasts quieter operation and improved combustion efficiency. Isuzu also claims that the mild-hybrid system offers 10% better fuel economy and 56% more torque compared to the 1.9-litre engine found in the base trims.
In addition to the new powertrain, the MU-X and V-Cross continue to offer other engine options, including a 148 hp 1.9-litre diesel and a 187 hp 3.0-litre unit. While the mild-hybrid diesel comes exclusively with an 8-speed automatic gearbox, the other engines are available with 6-speed manual or automatic transmissions.
Availability and Future Plans
The 2025 Isuzu V-Cross and MU-X equipped with the electrified diesel engine will be available in Thailand starting this month. While Isuzu has not yet confirmed plans to introduce the new powertrain in India, the company is gearing up to launch an electric D-Max globally in 2025, as part of its multi-pathway strategy for 2030. This strategy aims to combine innovations in internal combustion engines (ICE), battery electric vehicles, and fuel-cell technologies, ensuring a versatile and sustainable future for the brand.
