Kia has officially unveiled the name of its upcoming micro-SUV, the Syros, designed to compete with models like the Tata Punch and Hyundai Exter. Positioned below the Sonet in Kia’s lineup, the Syros will utilize Kia’s updated 2.0 design language, previously seen in the EV9 and New Carnival, which aims to offer robust styling and performance for Indian consumers. The SUV’s recently released teaser images reveal its bold, boxy silhouette with a thick B-pillar and upright bonnet, signaling a rugged yet compact exterior.
The Syros is expected to bring high standards of safety, modern features, and impressive performance to the micro-SUV segment. It features vertically stacked LED headlights, mounted low on the front bumper, adding to its distinctive look. Although a launch date hasn’t been confirmed, industry insiders anticipate its arrival in early 2024.
In terms of performance, the Syros is expected to share powertrains with its sibling, the Hyundai Exter. This includes the 1.2-litre petrol engine, producing 81 hp and 113.8 Nm of peak torque, available with both five-speed manual and AMT options. Additionally, Kia may incorporate its 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine for the Syros, delivering 118 hp and 172 Nm of torque, which would provide a sportier drive experience.
