MG Motors has launched its latest electric SUV, the MG ES5, in China, and it is poised to replace the popular ZS EV in global markets, including India. The ES5 boasts a sleek, modern design with simple yet sharp aesthetics, much like its predecessor. It shares the same platform as the MG4 hatchback but has a larger body, measuring 4,476 mm in length, making it 162 mm longer than the ZS EV.
Inside, the MG ES5 features a contemporary cabin with a digital instrument cluster and a large central touchscreen. The interior design adopts a black color scheme with silver accents for contrast, delivering a refined look. Notably, the ES5 is a fully electric variant, unlike the new-generation ZS EV, which was only offered with petrol and hybrid options.
The ES5 is equipped with a single electric motor mounted on the rear axle, generating 168 horsepower and 250 Nm of peak torque, with power directed to the rear wheels. MG offers multiple battery options for the ES5 in China, with the largest 62.2 kWh pack delivering an impressive range of 525 km on a single charge.
As for the Indian market, it remains uncertain when the ZS EV will be updated. Currently, the ZS EV in India is priced starting at Rs 18.98 lakh (ex-showroom). It features a single electric motor that produces 173 hp and 280 Nm of torque, paired with a 50.5 kWh battery pack that offers a range of 461 km on a full charge.
With its extended range, refined design, and modern features, the MG ES5 is expected to capture attention as a strong contender in the growing electric SUV market.
