The public holiday for Eid-E-Milad, commemorating the birth of Prophet Muhammad, is being observed today across many states in India. This important festival, also known as Muhammad’s Birthday, Nabi Day, or Mawlid, prompts closures in public and private sector banks in several regions. However, the holiday schedule varies from state to state, so it is advisable to confirm with your local branch for the most accurate information.
In states including Gujarat, Mizoram, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Manipur, Jammu, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, New Delhi, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand, banks will be closed in observance of Eid-E-Milad. The closure is part of the national recognition of the festival, which holds significant religious and cultural importance.
However, Maharashtra has made a notable adjustment to its holiday schedule. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced that the Eid-E-Milad holiday originally scheduled for September 16 has been rescheduled to September 18. This change means that there will be no banking transactions, including government securities, foreign exchange, money markets, and rupee interest rate derivatives, on September 18, 2024. All pending transactions for that day will be settled on September 19, 2024.
Despite these closures, online banking services remain operational. Customers can still access their accounts, transfer funds, and manage their finances via online platforms and mobile apps. This allows individuals to handle their banking needs conveniently from home or on the go, even during the public holiday.
