A landslide has devastated Mundakkai in Wayanad district, resulting in at least four fatalities and several people being trapped. The disaster struck around 2 a.m., with a subsequent landslide occurring at approximately 4:10 a.m. The impacted regions include Vythiri, Vellarimala, and Meppadi.
Ongoing heavy rains have exacerbated the situation, complicating rescue efforts. The road connecting Chooralmala and Mundakkai has been washed away, further hindering access. The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has announced on their Facebook page that two teams from the Kannur Defence Security Corps are being dispatched to assist with the rescue operations. Reaching the affected area remains difficult due to obstructed roads from fallen trees and soil.
