In a groundbreaking move, JioStar has officially launched JioHotstar, India’s biggest OTT platform, merging JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar into a single streaming powerhouse. With over 50 crore users and 3 lakh hours of content, the platform aims to dominate India’s entertainment landscape, offering a mix of international and regional content, blockbuster movies, and live sports events.
JioHotstar will stream top-tier Hollywood productions from Disney, NBCUniversal’s Peacock, Warner Bros. Discovery HBO, and Paramount, making it a one-stop destination for global entertainment.
Sports and Entertainment Like Never Before
One of JioHotstar’s biggest attractions is its extensive sports coverage. Cricket fans can look forward to major tournaments, including ICC events, IPL, WPL, and domestic matches. Other sporting events such as the English Premier League (EPL), Wimbledon, Pro Kabaddi League, and Indian Super League (ISL) will also be available, catering to diverse audiences.
Cutting-Edge Features and Subscription Plans
JioHotstar is set to redefine streaming with next-gen technology. The platform introduces:
- Ultra HD 4K streaming for superior video quality
- Multi-angle viewing for an immersive sports-watching experience
- AI-driven insights and real-time stats overlays
- Ad-supported free tier, making premium content accessible to a wider audience
For those looking for an ad-free experience, premium plans will start at Rs 149, offering exclusive content and additional features.
Transition from Disney+ Hotstar to JioHotstar
The transition to JioHotstar has already begun, with the Disney+ Hotstar app rebranded as JioHotstar on both the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. Users visiting the Hotstar website are now redirected to the new service, which integrates JioCinema’s library seamlessly.
A Landmark Merger in the OTT Industry
The JioCinema-Disney+ Hotstar merger was approved by the Competition Commission of India (CCI) and the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) in August last year, with the joint venture being formalized in November. Reliance Industries holds a 60% stake, while Disney owns 37%, making it a formidable force in the Indian streaming space.
With JioHotstar, Indian audiences can now enjoy a superior, AI-driven, multi-sport, and entertainment-rich OTT experience like never before.
