Ola Founder and CEO Bhavish Aggarwal has introduced a new reporting system for employees, inspired by a similar initiative recently launched by Elon Musk. The directive, titled “Kya Chal Raha Hai?”, which translates to “What’s going on?”, requires employees to submit weekly progress reports detailing their work accomplishments.
As per an internal memo, all employees across Aggarwal’s companies must send an email every week containing three to five bullet points summarizing their completed tasks. These reports must be submitted to both the employees’ direct managers and a designated company email address. No exemptions have been granted, making this a mandatory practice.
In his email to employees, Aggarwal emphasized the importance of transparency and efficiency, stating that this initiative would ensure better communication and accountability within the organization. The first reports were expected within a day of the announcement, with all future submissions due every Sunday.
The move comes at a time of significant restructuring within Ola, including a round of layoffs aimed at reducing operational costs and boosting profitability. Reports indicate that Ola Electric is set to cut over 1,000 jobs, marking the second major layoff in five months. Departments such as procurement, customer relations, and charging infrastructure will reportedly be affected.
Aggarwal’s policy resembles Musk’s recent mandate for US federal employees, requiring them to submit weekly bullet-pointed reports to improve efficiency and reduce bureaucratic delays. While Musk’s initiative has faced criticism for potentially lowering morale and job security, Aggarwal appears committed to a similar approach.
This is not the first time Aggarwal has implemented strict workplace measures. In December last year, he issued a warning to employees regarding poor attendance, reinforcing his focus on discipline and productivity.
As Ola undergoes rapid changes, the “Kya Chal Raha Hai?” initiative signals Aggarwal’s intent to keep a closer eye on employee performance while navigating corporate restructuring challenges.
