Riyadh Air Eyes India as Key Market for Luxury Travel, Says CEO Tony Douglas

CEO Tony Douglas Highlights Strategic Plans and Fleet Expansion Ahead of 2025 Launch

At the Future Investment Initiative (FII8) forum, Riyadh Air’s CEO Tony Douglas underscored the airline’s commitment to India as a pivotal market, expressing excitement about serving Indian passengers. Scheduled to commence operations in 2025, Riyadh Air is set to offer luxurious travel experiences, particularly for those flying from or connecting through Riyadh. Douglas stated that India ranks highly on their priority list, emphasizing the airline’s ambition to provide an exceptional level of service.

To bolster its operations, Riyadh Air has placed an order for 60 Airbus A321 aircraft, increasing its total fleet to 132 jets, which includes previous orders of Boeing 787 Dreamliners. Douglas compared the airline’s innovative approach to a “Steve Jobs moment,” showcasing how Riyadh Air aims to redefine luxury in aviation.

He explained that the brand’s identity revolves around three core principles: an obsessive focus on guest experience, leadership in environmental sustainability, and a digital-first mindset tailored for a young, tech-savvy population. Riyadh Air aims to deliver a seamless travel experience, akin to popular services like Uber and Amazon, leveraging technology to enhance customer convenience.

Additionally, the airline has made strides in blending fashion with aviation, having launched its in-cabin style at Paris Fashion Week, a first for the industry. Douglas’s vision for Riyadh Air is clear: to create a luxurious, refined travel experience that reflects the kingdom’s aspirations while meeting the needs of modern travelers. The FII8 forum, which runs from October 29 at the King Abdulaziz International Conference Center in Riyadh, serves as a platform for discussing global investment opportunities and innovation, positioning Riyadh Air at the forefront of these developments.
