Swiggy, one of India’s leading food delivery platforms, recently marked a significant milestone, celebrating its 10th anniversary in August 2024. Co-founded by Sriharsha Majety, Nandan Reddy, and Rahul Jaimini, Swiggy has grown to become a major player in the food delivery industry, competing closely with Zomato, which was founded in 2008.
To commemorate the occasion, Swiggy’s CEO and Co-founder, Sriharsha Majety, took to LinkedIn to share insights into the platform’s early days. Reflecting on Swiggy’s launch on August 6, 2014, Majety recalled the surprising start: “When we launched Swiggy, we ended our first day with zero orders. But the next day, we received our very first order, marking the real beginning of our journey.”
Majety also highlighted the remarkable progress of one of Swiggy’s early restaurant partners, Truffles. In the platform’s early days, Truffles received only two orders daily. Today, they manage as many as 7,261 orders in a single day, showcasing the significant growth of both Swiggy and its partners over the years.
Expressing gratitude to these early adopters, Majety noted that Swiggy now partners with over 300,000 restaurants across India. He acknowledged the crucial role these early partners played in Swiggy’s success, helping to establish “Swiggy it” as a common phrase in Indian households.
Swiggy’s journey from zero orders on its first day to becoming a nationwide phenomenon is a testament to the power of perseverance and innovation in transforming a novel concept into a daily habit for millions of Indians.
