Trump’s tariff war: Fuel prices hold steady across India

Oil marketing companies, including major players like Indian Oil Corp., conduct daily reviews of domestic fuel prices.

New Delhi: Fuel prices across India remain constant on July 9, 2025, providing a continued period of stability for consumers. This marks a consistent trend in fuel costs, which have largely held steady since May 2022 following various tax reductions by both central and state governments.

In the nation’s capital, Delhi, petrol is being retailed at Rs 94.77 per litre, while diesel stands at Rs 87.67 per litre. Other major Indian cities also saw prices hold firm:

Mumbai: Petrol at Rs 103.50 per litre, Diesel at Rs 90.03 per litre.
Chennai: Petrol at Rs 100.80 per litre, Diesel at Rs 92.39 per litre.
Kolkata: Petrol at Rs 105.41 per litre, Diesel at Rs 92.02 per litre.

Oil marketing companies, including major players like Indian Oil Corp., conduct daily reviews of domestic fuel prices. Any revisions are implemented at 6:00 a.m. each day. These daily adjustments are influenced by a complex interplay of factors, including global crude oil prices, foreign exchange rates (particularly the rupee’s exchange rate against the US dollar), actual and anticipated demand, and overall trade flows within global crude markets.

The stability in fuel prices today comes as global oil prices have remained steady. This follows a recent period of volatility marked by a surge and subsequent collapse driven by geopolitical risks emanating from the Middle East. As of July 9, Brent crude was trading at $69.94 a barrel, with West Texas Intermediate (WTI) holding near $68.11. This calm in the international oil market is a key factor contributing to the current flat rates at Indian fuel pumps.
