Zomato Confirms Platform Fee Increase Amid Market Scrutiny

Clarification Issued to BSE Following Reports of Fee Hike

Zomato has officially clarified its recent platform fee increase in a communication to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), addressing inquiries that arose from the National Stock Exchange (NSE) regarding the matter. The food delivery giant confirmed that the hike from ₹7 to ₹10 is factual, stating in its announcement, “This is not a rumor.” The information comes directly from the Zomato mobile application, which is publicly accessible for verification.

The fee adjustment was implemented ahead of the festive season, a time when food delivery services typically see a spike in demand. Zomato explained that the increase in platform fees is essential for sustaining operations during this busy period. The company emphasized that this fee is separate from restaurant charges, delivery fees, and goods and services tax, indicating that it serves as a commission for facilitating services between users and restaurants.

In addition to the fee announcement, Zomato introduced a new initiative aimed at enhancing the welfare of its delivery partners. The Delivery Partner Well-being Framework focuses on five crucial areas: financial, social, physical, mental, and professional well-being. This framework aims to prioritize and assess the overall health and satisfaction of Zomato’s delivery workforce.

As Zomato navigates market pressures and strives to maintain service quality during peak times, the platform fee increase aligns with its goal of ensuring operational sustainability while supporting the well-being of its delivery partners. Other competitors in the food delivery sector, like Swiggy, have also made similar adjustments, raising their platform fees to ₹10.
