Minister of State Suresh Gopi has been charged with a second defamation case today for allegedly making derogatory remarks about Kerala’s chief minister. The latest case, filed by Chelakkara police, stems from a complaint by V R Anoop, a KPCC media panelist. Anoop has been summoned to provide a statement regarding the complaint.
The accusations arose from Gopi’s speech at the NDA election convention in Chelakkara, where he made critical remarks involving the chief minister, hinting that issues like Pooram festival disruptions required investigation beyond local law enforcement. Gopi suggested that a CBI investigation would be more appropriate to address these issues, claiming the local police investigation under CM Pinarayi Vijayan would be insufficient. He expressed concerns about disruptions to the Pooram festival and implied that several political figures should be questioned to uncover the “truth.”
Earlier in the day, another case was registered against Gopi for alleged misuse of an ambulance during the Thrissur Pooram. On that day, Gopi was seen arriving at Thiruvambady in an ambulance provided by Seva Bharathi, which was seen as a violation of police protocols and improper use of emergency services. This case was based on a complaint from CPI mandalam secretary, advocate Sumesh, who highlighted that using an ambulance for non-medical purposes breached legal regulations. The police’s FIR includes charges related to this misuse.
