Thrissur: A series of coordinated ATM robberies shook Thrissur on Friday morning, with a professional gang making off with approximately Rs 60 lakh from three different locations. The thefts occurred between 4 am and 5 am at ATMs situated along Shornur Road, Mapranam, and Kolazhy. The robbers, masked and traveling in a white vehicle, used a gas cutter to break into the machines and steal the cash.
Police believe the same group is responsible for all three robberies, which took place under the jurisdictions of different police stations. CCTV footage captured four masked individuals arriving at the ATM sites, where they reportedly spray-painted the cameras to conceal their identities during the theft.
Thrissur District Police Chief Ilango R inspected the scenes of the crimes on Friday morning and confirmed that an alert had been issued to Palakkad, Coimbatore, Krishnagiri, and Salem—areas that have recently experienced similar robberies. The police are focusing on these locations, suspecting the gang might attempt to flee to Tamil Nadu. Security has been tightened at district borders and the Paliyekkara toll plaza, with additional checks and heightened surveillance ordered across the district to prevent further incidents and catch the culprits.
Authorities are intensively reviewing CCTV footage and conducting border checks as part of their investigation. The incident has raised concerns about the operations of a professional gang, and efforts are underway to track them down before they can escape the region.
