Alappuzha native P. Devanand has achieved the first rank in the Kerala Engineering Architecture and Medical (KEAM) entrance exam for 2024. Devanand, who has always had a passion for mathematics, chose engineering naturally. He prepared for the JEE Mains, qualified, and then took the KEAM 2024 without much anticipation, although he did expect to place in the top ten.
His dream was to enter an IIT, leading him to focus on the JEE Mains, where he secured the 682nd rank, earning admission to IIT Kharagpur. Devanand began his engineering entrance foundation course in the 9th grade and has been determined to become an engineer ever since.
Devanand’s study approach is practical and flexible, avoiding rigid schedules and ensuring he comprehends daily lessons. He finds mathematics easy and dedicates more time to chemistry, which he finds challenging. His success comes from thorough study of textbooks and strong support from his teachers and family. He avoids pressure by studying as much as he can on days when he feels energetic, and his family plays a crucial role in his achievements by offering constant support without pressuring him.
Devanand’s father, Padmakumar, works in the Economics and Statistics Department, and his mother is a high school teacher. His younger brother is currently in the 9th grade.
