In a large-scale operation aimed at combating drug trafficking, the Kerala Police arrested 234 individuals across the state and seized significant quantities of narcotics, including MDMA and cannabis. The statewide initiative, known as Operation D-Hunt, was conducted on March 14, during which law enforcement officials inspected 2,362 suspects and registered 222 cases related to drug possession, as confirmed by the State Police Media Centre (SPMC).
During the drive, officers confiscated 0.0119 kg of MDMA, 6.171 kg of cannabis, and 167 cannabis-laced beedis. The primary objective of this crackdown was to dismantle networks involved in the storage and distribution of illegal substances in Kerala.
Coordinated Law Enforcement Effort
Operation D-Hunt was executed under the leadership of ADGP (Law and Order) Manoj Abraham, who heads the State Anti-Narcotics Task Force, following directives from State Police Chief Dr. Sheikh Darvesh Sahib. The operation was coordinated by the Range-based NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Coordination Cell, working closely with District Police Chiefs to ensure maximum enforcement.
To strengthen public participation in the anti-narcotics initiative, the police have set up a 24-hour Anti-Narcotics Control Room (9497927797), encouraging citizens to report drug-related activities. Authorities have assured that all tip-offs will be kept strictly confidential.
Ongoing Vigilance Against Drug Crimes
Officials emphasized that the crackdown will not be a one-time effort but part of a sustained campaign against drug-related offenses. Increased surveillance measures will be implemented, and law enforcement agencies are actively working on creating a comprehensive database of drug offenders to facilitate future investigations and arrests.
This operation underscores Kerala’s commitment to eradicating drug abuse and trafficking, with law enforcement agencies remaining vigilant to curb the menace through continuous monitoring, strict enforcement, and public cooperation.
