The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a plea requesting the postponement of the NEET-PG examination, which is scheduled for August 11. The plea argued that candidates had been allocated exam cities that were highly inconvenient to reach.
A bench consisting of Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra emphasized that rescheduling the exam would impact the careers of over two lakh students and their families. “As a matter of principle, we will not reschedule the exam. There are two lakh students and four lakh parents who will be affected if we postpone it. We cannot jeopardize the careers of so many candidates,” the bench stated.
Senior advocate Sanjay Hegde, representing the petitioners, contended that rescheduling was necessary due to the scheduling of two exams in a single day—one in the morning and one in the afternoon. The plea also highlighted that exam cities were assigned on July 31, with specific centres to be announced on August 8.
Originally scheduled for June 23, the NEET-PG exam was postponed by the Union Health Ministry as a precautionary measure following allegations of irregularities in other competitive exams.
