The University Grants Commission (UGC) has declared 22 institutions as fake, which were functioning without any proper recognition. Under the UGC Regulations Act, these institutions are not authorised to confer degrees, and any qualification from such colleges or institutes is invalid.
Recently, UGC warned about a fake university running in Delhi, the Institute of Management and Training, and another university in Kerala, known as the International Islamic University of Prophetic Medicine. The university in Kerala’s Calicut is neither recognised nor empowered to award any degree as per the UGC regulations, as per the official UGC notice.
Earlier in July, UGC alerted students and parents not to fall prey to fake advertisements offering degrees in the name of the ‘University of Colombo.’ As per the official UGC notice, the university is not authorised to offer any undergraduate (UG), postgraduate (PG), or doctoral degree courses.
