Thrissur: The police investigation into the daring daylight robbery at the Federal Bank in Chalakudy has intensified, with authorities expanding their search beyond Kerala. A special team led by Chalakudy DySP K Sumesh has been formed to track down the accused, who remains at large. Thrissur Rural SP V Krishnakumar is overseeing the investigation, ensuring all possible leads are pursued.
Authorities suspect that the robber may have already fled the state, prompting an interstate probe. The vehicle used in the crime has not yet been recovered, adding to the challenges faced by law enforcement. The police are also examining whether the suspect had accomplices who helped execute the heist or facilitated his escape.
The robbery took place around 2:30 pm at the Potta branch of Federal Bank. Exploiting the lunchtime break, the suspect, dressed in a helmet, gloves, and a jacket, entered the bank on a scooter. At the time of the incident, most employees were in the dining area, leaving only two individuals—including the bank manager—outside. The armed robber threatened them with a knife, locked them inside the dining room, and proceeded to the cash counter.
Despite ₹45 lakh being available at the counter, the thief managed to steal only three bundles of ₹5 lakh each, totaling ₹15 lakh. The suspect then fled the scene, making it difficult for authorities to track him, as his attire concealed his identity.
With the investigation widening, police are reviewing CCTV footage, tracking possible escape routes, and coordinating with other state law enforcement agencies. Authorities have urged the public to report any suspicious activity that could aid in identifying the culprit.
