Pathanamthitta: In a move welcomed by Gulf Malayalis, BSNL now offers an innovative recharge option that allows customers to use their domestic SIM cards in the UAE without switching to an international SIM.
With a special recharge of just ₹167 for 90 days or ₹57 for 30 days, BSNL SIM cards can remain operational internationally. Users, however, must purchase additional top-ups to enable call and data services while abroad. This service provides a cost-effective and hassle-free alternative for those traveling between India and the UAE, particularly the large Malayali community residing there.
The Kerala circle of BSNL has spearheaded this initiative, making it the first telecom provider in India to offer such a facility. The UAE, being home to a significant population of expatriates from Kerala, has been chosen as the initial target for the service rollout. BSNL has announced plans to extend this feature to other international destinations in the future.
Previously, customers were required to purchase international SIM cards before traveling overseas, a process that often involved additional costs and inconvenience. This new offering simplifies connectivity, ensuring uninterrupted service while abroad.
This initiative is a major relief for Gulf Malayalis, providing affordable and seamless communication options and reinforcing BSNL’s commitment to catering to the unique needs of its customers.
