New Delhi: A 4.0 magnitude earthquake shook parts of Delhi-NCR early on Monday morning, causing panic among residents. According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the earthquake struck at 5:36 AM with its epicenter in New Delhi, near Durgabai Deshmukh College of Special Education in Dhaula Kuan. The quake occurred at a depth of five kilometers.
Tremors Trigger Panic
Residents of Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad reported strong tremors, prompting many to rush out of their homes. Some residents also reported hearing a loud sound at the time of the earthquake.
Seismic Activity in the Region
Officials noted that the Dhaula Kuan area has experienced smaller earthquakes approximately every 2–3 years. The last recorded quake in the region was of 3.3 magnitude in 2015.
Political Reactions and Safety Alerts
Following the tremors, Delhi Police reassured citizens, posting on X, “We hope you all are safe, Delhi! Call 112 for emergencies.” AAP leader Atishi and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal also expressed concern, praying for everyone’s safety.
AICC spokesperson Ragini Nayak wrote on X, “Massive tremors were felt 10 minutes back in Delhi, woke us up from sleep. I hope and pray everyone is safe and sound.”
While no casualties or major damage have been reported so far, authorities urge citizens to stay alert and follow earthquake safety protocols.
