New Delhi: The newly unified Air India-Vistara airline celebrated a significant milestone with the departure of its first international flight from Doha to Mumbai. This historic journey, designated AI2286, took off from Doha at 10:07 pm local time on Monday and is expected to arrive in Mumbai early on Tuesday morning, marking the debut of the international operations under the merged airline.
Following this, the new entity commenced domestic operations with flight AI2984, which departed from Mumbai for Delhi around 1:30 am on Tuesday using an A320 aircraft. To facilitate a smooth transition for travelers, the merged airline has introduced a specific code for Vistara flights within Air India’s system. Going forward, Vistara flights will bear the identifier “AI2XXX,” distinguishing them from other Air India services.
This merger signifies a major consolidation within the Indian aviation industry. Tata Group, which owns both Air India and Vistara, collaborated with Singapore Airlines in this integration, with Singapore Airlines holding a 25.1% stake in the combined Air India entity. This move is expected to streamline operations, improve service efficiency, and strengthen Tata Group’s competitive position in the aviation sector. The combined entity aims to leverage the operational strengths of both Air India and Vistara, offering travelers an expanded network and enhanced flying experience. With this merger, Tata Group has positioned itself as a key player in both domestic and international aviation markets, setting a new chapter for Indian civil aviation.
