India’s political landscape is abuzz with the simultaneous assembly elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand, where voters are set to decide the fate of leaders across a combined total of 326 constituencies. Polling in Maharashtra is underway for all 288 assembly seats, while Jharkhand is conducting the second phase of its elections, covering 38 constituencies.
In Maharashtra, voting began at 7 am and will continue till 6 pm. The elections are the first after the Shiv Sena and NCP split, making the contest particularly fierce. Key candidates include Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar, and Aditya Thackeray. Tight security has been deployed across the state, especially in Mumbai, to ensure smooth polling. The Election Commission has urged citizens to turn out in large numbers, with key battles unfolding in constituencies like Nagpur, Worli, and Baramati.
Meanwhile, Jharkhand’s second phase sees over 1.23 crore voters casting their ballots across 38 constituencies. Prominent figures such as Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Babulal Marandi, and Sudesh Mahto are in the fray. Polling stations have been set up in both rural and urban areas, with 14,218 booths operational. The elections are primarily contested between the JMM-led alliance and the BJP-led NDA.
Both states have seen heightened security measures, with sensitive booths identified and polling monitored closely. With significant voter turnout already recorded, the results for both Maharashtra and Jharkhand will be declared on November 23, setting the stage for crucial shifts in regional politics.
